The 2nd edition of Research.com ranking of the best scientists in the
field of Molecular Biology was created using data
combined from a wide range of data sources including OpenAlex and
CrossRef. The bibliometric data for evaluating the citation-based metrics were
collected on 21-12-2022. Position in the ranking is based on a
scientist's D-index (Discipline H-index), which
includes exclusively publications and citation
metrics for an examined discipline.

The range of our Molecular Biology research
Research.com’s best scientists ranking is a trustworthy
lineup of leading researchers from the field of
Molecular Biology, established by means of a meticulous
analysis of 166,880 researchers determined
from various bibliometric data sources. For the area of
Molecular Biology, more than 5724 scholars were
investigated.
What is D-index inclusion threshold for Molecular Biology
The D-index threshold for including a scholar to be
considered is established at 40 if
most of their publications are in the field of Molecular Biology. The
inclusion criteria for researchers to be
considered into the ranking of top scientists are based on the D-index, ratio
of the publications made within the specific field of study
as well as the awards and achievements of the researchers. The
D-index threshold for listing top researchers is
set as an increment of 10 depending on the total number of researchers
assessed for each area od study whilst
making sure that the top 1% of leading scholars are
added into the list. There should be a proximity of
30% or less between a researcher’s general H-index and their D-index.
Extra verification rules
Because our primary aim is to ensure that only
credible scholars are mentioned in
our ranking we believe that metrics are never
meant to be a full tool to assess the
output of scholars. Because of that
we manually check each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
wide range of reliable sources. Even though it’s not a
metric contributing to a researcher’s position in
the ranking, the number of documents published in
well-known journals and conference proceedings should be a
credible secondary implication of their contribution to research in a
specific field of study. Position in the ranking is
based on every scientist’s D-index
with the help of data collected from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most trustworthy and well-established bibliometric
databases of this type accessible to the scientific community. A
detailed explanation of our research process
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our goal
Our objective is to motivate scientists,
businessmen and decision-makers
around the world to explore where prominent experts are heading
and to offer an opportunity for the entire scientific community to
get to know who the leading experts in specific
fields of research, in different countries, or even within research
institutions are.
