Best Chemistry Universities in the World 2023

The 2nd edition of Research.com ranking of the best universities in the arena of Chemistry was created using data consolidated from a wide range of data sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef. The bibliometric data for estimating the citation-based metrics were acquired on 21-12-2022. Position in the ranking is based on a sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholar’s affiliated with a given institution. D-index includes exclusively publications and citation data for an examined discipline.

The focus of our Chemistry research
Research.com’s best universities ranking is a credible account of leading researchers from the area of Chemistry, created using a meticulous study of 166,880 researchers determined from multiple bibliometric data sources. For the area of Chemistry, as many as 43178 scientists were examined.

What is D-index acceptance threshold for Chemistry
The D-index threshold for approving a researcher to be considered is placed at 40 if the majority of of their publications are in the discipline of Chemistry. The acceptance factors for researchers to be considered into the ranking of top scholars are based on the D-index, proportion of the contributions made within the selected discipline plus the awards and achievements of the scientists. The D-index threshold for listing top researchers is set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of researchers projected for each scientific field whilst ensuring that the top 1% of best researchers are considered into the list. There should be a proximity of 30% or less between a researcher’s general H-index and their D-index.

Other verification rules
As our main goal is to make sure that only genuine scholars are listed in Research.com ranking we believe that raw data are never supposed to be an absolute measure to quantify the work of scholars. Because of that we manually verify every profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a wide range of credible sources. Even though it’s not a factor impacting a researcher’s position in the ranking, the number of papers published in major journals and conference proceedings should constitute a credible secondary signal of their contribution to research in a given area of science. Position in the ranking is established using each scientist’s D-index using information collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are the most credible and well-known bibliometric databases of this type available to the scientific community. A comprehensive overview of our research procedures can be found on our methodology page.

Our mission
Our aim is to inspire scholars, entrepreneurs and decision-makers around the world to investigate where leading experts are heading and to offer an opportunity for the whole scientific community to discover who the leading experts in specific areas of study, in different countries, or even within research institutions are.
