A university’s position within the ranking is determined by aggregating the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all scholars affiliated with that institution whose primary publication focus resides within the field of Chemistry. The D-index is a specialized metric, encompassing exclusively the publication and citation data relevant to the discipline under examination, ensuring a precise and discipline-specific assessment of scholarly impact.
Scope and Criteria of Research Included
The ranking is grounded on an extensive analysis of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from diverse bibliometric sources, of which 121,967 were confirmed as researchers specializing specifically in Chemistry. A key qualifying criterion for inclusion in the ranking involves a minimum D-index threshold set at 40, alongside the prerequisite that a majority of a scientist’s tier publications pertain to Chemistry. In addition to bibliometric performance, considered indicators include scientists' awards and achievements within the Chemistry domain, reflecting a holistic view of scholarly excellence.
The threshold for the D-index among top researchers is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10, aligned with the total number of scholars estimated within the discipline. This approach guarantees incorporation of the top 1% of leading scholars in Chemistry. Furthermore, a proximity criterion is applied, ensuring the difference between a scientist’s overall H-index and their discipline-specific D-index remains within 30% or less.
