Changsha University of Science and Technology

Changsha University of Science and Technology or CSUST is a public multidisciplinary university located in Changsha, Hunan Province of China. Originally founded in 1956 as Changsha Jiaotong College, it obtained its current name in 2003 when it merged with Changsha Electric Power College. It is one of the largest educational institutions in China known for its contributions in the fields of engineering, science, and management. CSUST is counted among the top 100 universities in China.

CSUST has 18 schools and departments which includes the School of Physics and Electronic Engineering, the School of Maths and Computer Science, and the School of Economics and Management. The university offers more than 50 50 bachelor’s degree programs, close to 60 master’s degree programs, and six Ph.D. programs.

Currently, the Changsha University of Science and Technology has approximately 37,000 undergraduates, nearly 5,000 graduate students, and employs more than 1,900 full-time teaching personnel. The university has two campuses (the Jinpenling campus and the Yuntang campus) which feature a gymnasium, a swimming pool, basketball courts, track fields, and the university hospital in addition to dormitories and academic buildings.

Materials science, computer science, and chemistry are the university’s top fields of research. Their researchers have attended and presented at various conferences such as the International Conference on Intelligent Computation Technology and Automation in 2009, the International Workshop on Computer Science and Engineering also in 2009, and the IEEE Conference Energy Internet and Energy System Integration in 2019.

Changsha University of Science and Technology research has been published in journals such as Information Fusion that featured Li et al. ‘s (2016) “Pixel-level image fusion” with almost 700 citations to date. In 2014, the Journal of Power Sources published Liang et al.’s article “Silicon-based materials as high capacity anodes for next-generation lithium-ion batteries” and it has close to 470 citations. Another most cited publication from CSUST is Li et al.’s (2013) “Security in Wireless Sensor Networks.” This book has over 400 citations so far.

CSUST has provincial research bases for philosophical and social sciences, research centers for engineering, as well as key laboratories for multidisciplinary research. The university obtained total funding of RMB 1000 million Yuan from national science and technology support plan projects and national social sciences fund among others.

The university has won over a dozen national research awards. These include winning the top prize of the National Scientific and Technological Advancement Award for its research project, Integrated Repair Techniques of Road Construction in the Expansive Soil Area.
