The 1st edition of Research.com ranking of the top universities in India is based on metrics gathered from Microsoft Academic Graph on 06-12-2021. Position in our world university ranking is based on a sum of H-index values of every leading scientist affiliated with a given university. A leading scientist is a researcher with a D-index (discipline H-index) higher than a specific threshold (in most cases 30 or 40) for their fields of study. The ranking process involved careful evaluation of 166,880 scientists on Google Scholar as well as Microsoft Academic Graph.

In comparison to other global university rankings our goal is to focus predominantly on research achievements of top researchers working with each institution. We hope to inspire scholars, executives, and decision-makers across the world to find out where leading experts are heading and to provide an opportunity for the entire scientific community to determine who the leading experts in various areas of research, in particular geographies, or possibly within scientific organizations are.
The ranking process involved a detailed examination of 166,880 researchers’ profiles from Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic Graph. Over 132,836 profiles were examined. Scientists from more than 2,814 institutions and affiliations were analyzed.
