The citation-based metrics employed to determine ranking positions were gathered on January 12, 2026, ensuring the most current and extensive dataset possible. Each institution's position in the ranking is calculated based on the cumulative sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-indexes) associated with all ranking scholars affiliated with that institution. The D-index reflects publications and citation data exclusively within the examined discipline, yet scholars were considered across all major research domains to provide a holistic and fair evaluation of institutional research impact.
Scope of Research
The ranking encompasses a broad and rigorous examination of 279,971 scientist profiles, synthesized from a variety of high-quality bibliometric data sources. These profiles represent scholars across the entire spectrum of major scientific disciplines. To qualify for inclusion, each scientist needed to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 20, ensuring that only researchers with a significant and impactful body of work were considered. In addition to bibliometric indicators, scientists’ awards and recognized achievements within their respective fields were incorporated into the evaluation matrix to add further depth and validation to the ranking criteria.
Verification Practices and Reliability
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data can never alone serve as an absolute indicator of scholarly output, the Research.com team has implemented thorough manual verification protocols. Each scientist’s profile was cross-checked against publications indexed in a wide range of reputable and trustworthy sources, guaranteeing the accuracy and reliability of the underlying information. While not a direct factor in ranking positions, the volume of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings was also considered a valuable secondary signal of a scholar’s research contribution within their discipline.
The ranking positions themselves are calculated using each researcher’s H-index, derived from data aggregated by OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most respected and widely utilized bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
