Best Chemistry Universities in the World 2023

The 2nd edition of Research.com ranking of the best universities in the arena of Chemistry relies os data combined from various data sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef. The bibliometric data for evaluating the citation-based metrics were gathered on 21-12-2022. Position in the ranking is based on a sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking researcher’s affiliated with a given institution. D-index takes into account only publications and citation metrics for an examined discipline.

The range of our Chemistry research
Our best universities ranking is a reliable lineup of leading researchers from the discipline of Chemistry, established by means of a detailed analysis of 166,880 scholars identified from multiple bibliometric data sources. For the field of Chemistry, as many as 43178 researchers were examined.

What is D-index approval threshold for Chemistry
The D-index threshold for approving a scientist to be evaluated is established at 40 if the majority of of their publications are in the field of Chemistry. The inclusion factors for scholars to be considered into the ranking of top researchers are based on the D-index, ratio of the contributions made within the selected area in addition to the awards and achievements of the scholars. The D-index threshold for considering top scientists is set as an increment of 10 depending on the total number of scientists assessed for each scientific field whilst guaranteeing that the top 1% of leading scholars are considered into the list. There should be a proximity of 30% or less between a scholar’s general H-index and their D-index.

Extra verification methods
As our main mission is to make sure that only credible scientists are listed in our ranking we are aware that metrics are never supposed to be an absolute means to quantify the output of scientists. For that reason we manually inspect each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a broad range of reliable sources. While it’s not a element contributing to a researcher’s position in our ranking, the quantity of documents published in prominent journals and conference proceedings should be a credible secondary signal of their contribution to research in a selected discipline. Position in the ranking is determined by each scholar’s D-index with the help of information compiled from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are the most trustworthy and well-established bibliometric databases of this kind available to the research community. A thorough definition of our research process can be found on our methodology page.

Our mission
Our mission is to inspire researchers, businessmen and administrative bodies worldwide to investigate where leading experts are heading and to provide a way for the whole research community to discover who the leading experts in specific fields of research, in various countries, or even within research institutions are.
