Bibliometric data used to derive the citation-based metrics underpinning the ranking were collected as of January 12, 2026. Central to the ranking methodology is the D-index (Discipline H-index), which evaluates a scientist’s impact specifically within the Immunology discipline by incorporating only those papers and citation metrics directly related to this research area. This focused approach allows for a precise reflection of a researcher’s influence within their specific field, rather than across all disciplines indiscriminately.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
Our analysis began with a comprehensive examination of 187,135 scientist profiles drawn from diverse bibliometric data sources encompassing all disciplines. From this extensive dataset, 317 scientists specializing in Immunology in Germany were identified and evaluated.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist was required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 40. Furthermore, the majority of each qualifying scientist’s tier publications had to be explicitly categorized under Immunology. Beyond bibliometric measures, researchers' awards and achievements related to Immunology were also taken into consideration to provide a well-rounded assessment of their scientific stature.
The D-index threshold for inclusion is calibrated incrementally in steps of 10, reflective of the total estimated number of scholars within each discipline, thereby ensuring consistent representation of the top 1% of leading experts in Immunology. Additionally, the methodology mandates that the D-index for each scientist must not diverge from their general H-index by more than 30%, guaranteeing alignment between overall impact and discipline-specific influence.
Verification Practices and Methodological Integrity
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team conducted meticulous manual verification of all scientist profiles. This process involved cross-correlating individual researcher records against publications indexed in a wide range of authoritative and trustworthy sources to validate the accuracy and relevance of the listed achievements.
While not directly affecting the scientist’s ranking position, the volume of publications in high-impact journals and premier conference proceedings was evaluated as a valuable secondary indicator of meaningful contribution within the field of Immunology.
The ranking positions themselves are assigned exclusively based on each researcher's D-index derived from data compiled from OpenAlex and CrossRef—among the most prominent and reliable bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
