The citation-based metrics used to determine scientist rankings were extracted on January 12, 2026, ensuring an up-to-date and robust dataset. A researcher’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a focused metric that exclusively accounts for publications and citations within the Animal Science and Veterinary discipline, thus providing a precise reflection of scholarly impact in the specific field under examination.
Scope and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking evaluates 279,971 scientist profiles identified across diverse bibliometric databases spanning all scientific disciplines, from which a subset of 3,152 scientists specializing in Animal Science and Veterinary sciences were selected for detailed analysis. To qualify for inclusion, a scientist must have attained a minimum D-index of 20, with the majority of their tier publications rooted firmly in Animal Science and Veterinary research. Additionally, professional awards and documented achievements pertinent to this discipline were incorporated into the evaluation process. The D-index threshold is dynamically set as increments of 10 relative to the estimated population of scholars in each discipline, guaranteeing that the top 1% of leading researchers are consistently captured. Furthermore, to ensure relevancy and consistency, candidates must exhibit a difference of no more than 30% between their general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index.
