Bibliometric data for the formulation of citation-based metrics used in this ranking were systematically gathered on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined based on their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that considers only publications and citation counts within the scientist’s examined discipline, providing a focused and accurate reflection of their scholarly influence in Animal Science and Veterinary fields.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking evaluates a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified through extensive cross-disciplinary bibliometric data sources. Within this comprehensive dataset, 3,155 scientists specializing in Animal Science and Veterinary disciplines were examined in detail. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist must have a minimum D-index of 20 and must have the majority of their tier publications concentrated in Animal Science and Veterinary research. In addition to bibliometric impact, awards and notable achievements in the field were also considered as contributing factors to recognition.
The D-index threshold is calibrated in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This approach ensures representation of the top 1% of leading researchers while maintaining methodological rigor. Furthermore, a proximity constraint requiring that a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index differ by no more than 30% is applied to confirm relevance and domain-specific expertise.

Accordingly, all scientist profiles underwent thorough manual verification and were cross-correlated against publications indexed in a wide array of reputable sources to affirm accuracy and authenticity.
Although not directly factored into the ranking positions, the number of papers published in prominent journals and leading conference proceedings serves as an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s research contributions within Animal Science and Veterinary disciplines.
