Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Psychology Scientists in Finland Ranking primarily leverages bibliometric data drawn from a diverse set of authoritative sources, most notably OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple additional data repositories. These platforms collectively provide comprehensive coverage of publication and citation records, enabling the robust evaluation of scholarly impact. The bibliometric data used to devise the citation-based metrics underlying this ranking was collected as of January 12, 2026.
Each scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that considers only publications and citations relevant to the specific discipline under examination—Psychology in this instance. This approach offers a focused and discipline-sensitive measure of scientific influence, ensuring comparability and relevance within the field.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The evaluation began with an extensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from a variety of bibliometric databases representing all scientific disciplines. Within this cohort, 89 scientists specializing in Psychology based in Finland were identified and analyzed in depth.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, candidates were required to have a minimum D-index of 30, with the majority of their tier publications situated squarely within the field of Psychology. Additionally, awards and recognized achievements specific to Psychology played a role in confirming the candidate’s prominence within the discipline.
The threshold D-index for consideration is adjusted in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of active scholars within each discipline. This dynamic threshold-setting ensures that the ranking consistently reflects approximately the top 1% of leading researchers in the field. Further, candidates must exhibit a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, reinforcing the alignment of their broader academic impact with their specialized contributions to Psychology.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data cannot serve as an absolute measure of researcher performance, the Research.com team undertook a rigorous manual verification process for all scientist profiles incorporated in the ranking. This entailed cross-correlating publication lists and citation records against a broad array of trustworthy academic sources to ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness.
While not directly influencing a researcher’s rank, the number of publications in prominent journals and leading conference proceedings is regarded as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s substantive contribution to Psychology research. Ultimately, positions in the ranking are established based on the D-index calculated through data harvested from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most reputable and widely utilized bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
