The 2nd edition of Research.com ranking of the best researchers in the
field of Plant Science and Agronomy relies os data
combined from a wide range of data sources including OpenAlex and
CrossRef. The bibliometric data for devising the citation-based metrics were
acquired on 21-12-2022. Position in the ranking is based on a scholar’s
D-index (Discipline H-index), which only includes
publications and citation metrics for an examined discipline.

The focus of our Plant Science and Agronomy research
Research.com’s best researchers ranking is a credible
account of leading scientists from the area of
Plant Science and Agronomy, established by means of a detailed
analysis of 166,880 scholars determined
from various bibliometric data sources. For the area of
Plant Science and Agronomy, over 5065 scientists were
analysed.
What is D-index acceptance threshold for Plant Science and Agronomy
The D-index threshold for including a scholar to be
evaluated is set to 30 if
most of their publications are in the area of Plant Science and Agronomy. The
approval requirements for researchers to be
considered into the ranking of top researchers are based on the D-index,
ratio of the publications made within the selected
area plus the awards and achievements of the
scholars. The D-index threshold for listing top
scientists is set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of
scholars projected for each
scientific field whilst ensuring that the top 1% of
leading scientists are added into the list.
We expect a proximity of 30% or less between a scholar’s
general H-index and their D-index.
Additional verification methods
Because our primary goal is to guarantee that only
credible scientists are mentioned in
the ranking we realize that numbers are never
supposed to be a full tool to assess the
output of scientists. For that reason
we manually inspect each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
wide range of trustworthy sources. Although it’s not a
factor contributing to a researcher’s position in
Research.com ranking, the quantity of documents published in
prominent journals and conference proceedings should constitute a
reliable secondary signal of their contribution to research in a
specific discipline. Position in the ranking is
based on each scientist’s D-index
according to information collected from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most trustworthy and well-known bibliometric
databases of this kind accessible to the scientific community. A
detailed definition of our research procedures
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our agenda
Our goal is to motivate scholars,
entrepreneurs and administrative bodies
worldwide to examine where leading experts are heading
and to provide an opportunity for the entire scientific community to
get to know who the leading experts in specific
disciplines, in different countries, or even within research
institutions are.
