The threshold for the D-index is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading researchers are incorporated in the list. Furthermore, to guarantee disciplinary focus, the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index was required to be 30% or less.

While a researcher’s number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence their position in the Research.com ranking, such publication metrics are recognized as valuable secondary indicators of contribution to a specific area of science.
