Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU or VU Amsterdam) is a public research university located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was founded in 1880 and is one of two large, publicly funded research universities in the city. The university was founded as a private institution and became government-funded on a parity basis with public universities in 1970. VU is one of the top academic and research institutions in the Netherlands and ranks highly worldwide.
