Each scientist's position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that specifically accounts for papers and citation metrics exclusive to the examined discipline, Medicine. Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking process considered a total of 188,153 scientist profiles extracted from a variety of bibliometric data sources spanning all scientific disciplines. From this comprehensive pool, 1,808 scientists specializing in Medicine were identified and evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the Medicine-specific ranking, a researcher’s D-index was required to be at least 70, ensuring recognition of only the most impactful scientists. In addition, a majority of the scholar’s tier publications had to be within the field of Medicine. Awards and notable achievements within the medical domain were also taken into account as supplementary evaluative factors.
The threshold for the D-index is calibrated in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, allowing for consistent inclusion of the top 1% of leading researchers globally. Moreover, to ensure the discipline-specific metric’s fidelity, a scientist’s general H-index and their Medicine-specific D-index were required to differ by no more than 30%.
