Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in France Ranking leverages data primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable bibliometric sources. The bibliometric data employed for devising the citation-based metrics were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which selectively includes only papers and citation metrics relevant to the discipline under evaluation—in this case, Business and Management. This metric ensures a focused assessment of impact within the specific academic field rather than a generalized citation count.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
The ranking is founded on a comprehensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across multiple bibliometric databases covering all disciplines. Within this extensive dataset, 63 scientists specializing in Business and Management were scrutinized.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 30, with a majority of their tier publications located within Business and Management. Furthermore, scientists’ awards and notable achievements within the discipline were also factored as qualitative indicators of their scholarly contributions.
The D-index threshold was calibrated as increments of 10 relative to the estimated number of scholars within each discipline, thereby ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts are represented. Additionally, a proximity threshold requiring that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index not exceed 30% was imposed. This criterion reinforces discipline-specific prominence without skewing results with interdisciplinary citation inflation.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
The Research.com team recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone are insufficient to fully assess the scholarly impact of researchers. Consequently, all scientist profiles were manually verified and cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad range of trustworthy and vetted sources. While not a direct factor influencing position within the ranking, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as a valuable secondary signal of a scientist’s contributions to their specific field.
The final positioning of each researcher is established using the D-index calculated from data gathered via OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and reliable bibliometric databases available to the research community worldwide.
