Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in Finland Ranking is constructed primarily using bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. These platforms provide comprehensive coverage of scientific publications and their citations across disciplines, ensuring a robust and inclusive dataset. The underlying bibliometric data, used to calculate citation-based metrics, were collected on January 12, 2026.
A researcher’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that incorporates only the papers and citation counts relevant to the specific discipline under examination—Business and Management in this case. This approach ensures the ranking reflects disciplinary impact rather than overall citation performance.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The analysis underpinning this ranking examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles obtained from a wide array of bibliometric data sources covering all scientific disciplines. Specifically, 40 scientists within the field of Business and Management underwent detailed evaluation.
To qualify for inclusion in the Business and Management ranking, a scientist was required to have:
- A D-index of at least 30, reflecting significant disciplinary impact,
- A majority of their tier publications situated within the Business and Management domain,
- Notable awards and achievements recognized within the Business and Management community.
The D-index threshold for consideration among top researchers scales in increments of 10 depending on the estimated total number of scholars within a discipline. This adaptive approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars in each field are incorporated into the ranking. Furthermore, an additional qualification criterion mandates that the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index should be no greater than 30% to ensure disciplinary focus and relevance.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data are inherently limited as absolute measures of scholarly output, the Research.com team has implemented meticulous verification practices. All scientist profiles were manually scrutinized and cross-correlated with publications indexed in a broad range of trusted and verified sources. This rigorous validation reinforces the credibility and reliability of the final ranking.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s position in the Research.com ranking, it is acknowledged as an important secondary indicator of scholarly contribution and influence within Business and Management research.
The ranking itself is grounded in each researcher’s D-index, derived from comprehensive bibliometric data curated primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and respected bibliometric databases available to the academic community.
