Data Sources and Bibliometric Collection
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Psychology Scientists in Austria Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data collected from leading academic databases, including OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other authoritative data sources. These platforms provide extensive coverage of publications and citations, ensuring a robust foundation for the ranking metrics. Bibliometric data for computing the citation-based metrics were gathered on January 12, 2026, to reflect the most up-to-date scholarly outputs. A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that accounts exclusively for publications and citation counts within the specific discipline under examination—in this case, Psychology.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
In establishing this ranking, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles across all academic disciplines were analyzed using a variety of bibliometric sources. From this broad pool, 51 scientists specializing in Psychology were identified and evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, researchers were required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 30, with the majority of their key publications being focused on Psychology. Furthermore, consideration was given to scientists’ awards and achievements specifically within the field.
The D-index threshold for selecting top researchers is dynamically set at increments of 10, calibrated to the estimated number of scholars within each discipline, thereby ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts are appropriately represented. Additionally, there is a requirement that the proximity between a scientist’s overall H-index and their Psychology-specific D-index does not exceed 30%, promoting accurate disciplinary specialization in the assessment.
Verification and Rigorous Validation Practices
Research.com recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the nuanced impact of a scholar’s contributions. Accordingly, each scientist profile was manually verified and cross-correlated against publications indexed in a wide range of trusted academic and scientific sources beyond the initial data pools. While the ranking’s positioning is based solely on each researcher’s D-index—derived from reputable databases such as OpenAlex and CrossRef—the total number of papers published in high-impact journals and conference proceedings serves as an important supplemental indicator of scholarly influence within Psychology.
