The 1st edition of Research.com ranking of the best scientists in the
arena of Medicine was created using data
consolidated from multiple data sources including OpenAlex and
CrossRef. The bibliometric data for estimating the citation-based metrics were
gathered on 06-12-2021. Position in the ranking is based on a
scientist's D-index (Discipline H-index), which
only includes publications and citation
data for an examined discipline.

The range of our Medicine research
Research.com’s best scholars ranking is a reliable
lineup of leading scholars from the discipline of
Medicine, established by means of a thorough
examination of 166,880 scholars determined
from various bibliometric data sources. For the area of
Medicine, as many as 65743 researchers were
investigated.
What is D-index inclusion threshold for Medicine
The D-index threshold for approving a researcher to be
examined is set to 70 if
most of their publications are in the field of Medicine. The
approval criteria for researchers to be
considered into the ranking of top scientists are based on the D-index, ratio
of the contributions made within the specific area
plus the awards and achievements of the scholars. The
D-index threshold for listing leading scientists is
set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of scholars
projected for each discipline whilst
making sure that the top 1% of best scientists are
considered into the list. We expect a proximity of
30% or less between a scholar’s general H-index and their D-index.
Other verification methods
As our leading mission is to guarantee that only
actual scientists are included in
our ranking we are aware that numbers are never
supposed to be an absolute means to evaluate the
output of scholars. This is why
we manually check every profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
wide range of trustworthy sources. While it’s not a
metric impacting a researcher’s position in
our ranking, the amount of documents published in
major journals and conference proceedings should constitute a
credible secondary implication of their contribution to research in a
given field of study. Position in the ranking is
determined by every researcher’s D-index
using data compiled from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most credible and well-known bibliometric
databases of this type accessible to the scientific community. A
comprehensive definition of our research policy
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our goal
Our mission is to inspire scholars,
businessmen and decision-makers
worldwide to explore where prominent experts are heading
and to provide an opportunity for the whole research community to
discover who the leading experts in specific
disciplines, in various countries, or even within research
institutions are.
