This ranking incorporates a comprehensive review of 279,971 scientist profiles drawn from a variety of bibliometric databases spanning all scientific disciplines. Specifically, 2,941 scientists identified as active contributors to the Materials Science field were examined in depth.
To qualify for inclusion, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 40, reflecting significant scholarly influence. Additionally, the majority of their high-impact publications needed to reside within the domain of Materials Science. Awards and notable achievements in the discipline were also factored into the evaluation process, contributing to a holistic profile of leadership in the field.
The D-index threshold for top researchers is tailored as increments of 10, calibrated according to the total number of scholars estimated in each discipline. This approach ensures inclusion of the top 1% of leading scientists within the field. Furthermore, a proximity criterion requires that the disparity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index remains within 30% or less, reinforcing the discipline-specific focus of the ranking.
