The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Animal Science and Veterinary Scientists in Netherlands Ranking is founded upon comprehensive bibliometric data aggregated primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable data sources. To ensure accuracy and currency, the citation-based metrics used in devising the ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. The ranking methodology centers on a researcher's D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that specifically includes only those papers and citation counts pertinent to the examined discipline, providing a highly focused evaluation of an individual's scholarly influence within Animal Science and Veterinary research.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking encompasses data from a broad examination of 279,971 scientist profiles drawn from diverse bibliometric databases covering all disciplines. Within this dataset, 80 scientists specifically associated with Animal Science and Veterinary research were identified and evaluated. To qualify for inclusion, a scientist's D-index had to be at least 20, with the majority of their tier publications falling within the domain of Animal Science and Veterinary. Additionally, researchers’ awards and recognized achievements in this field were considered as supplementary factors enhancing their evaluation.
The threshold for the D-index to consider top researchers is calibrated in increments of 10, adjusted according to the total number of scholars estimated within each discipline. This approach guarantees the representation of the top 1% of leading scholars in the ranking. Furthermore, to ensure disciplinary specificity and consistency, a scientist's general H-index and their D-index must be within a proximity of 30% or less, ensuring that the discipline-focused D-index reflects a substantial portion of their overall research impact.
Verification and Validation Processes
The research team behind the ranking acknowledges that raw bibliometric data, while invaluable, cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output or impact. Accordingly, all scientist profiles were subjected to meticulous manual verification, cross-referenced against publications indexed in a wide range of trustworthy academic sources. Although not directly influencing the ranking position, the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings is recognized as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist's contribution to their specific research area.
