Data Sources and Bibliometric Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Immunology Scientists in Spain Ranking is derived primarily from comprehensive bibliometric data obtained from esteemed sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data repositories. The bibliometric data used to calculate citation-based metrics for the ranking were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist's position within the ranking is determined based on their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that specifically considers papers and citation impact attributed solely to the examined discipline, ensuring an accurate assessment of domain-specific scholarly influence.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking is founded upon a robust examination of 187,135 scientist profiles aggregated from diverse bibliometric sources across all academic disciplines. Within this comprehensive corpus, 69 scientists specializing in Immunology in Spain were identified and assessed. To qualify for inclusion on this list, a scientist’s D-index was required to be at least 40, thereby ensuring representation of high-impact researchers. Additionally, a majority of the scientist’s tier publications had to be classified within the area of Immunology, reaffirming the discipline-specific focus of the ranking. Recognition of awards and achievements in Immunology further informed the evaluation process.
Importantly, the D-index thresholds are strategically set in increments of 10 proportionate to the estimated population of scholars in each discipline. This mechanism guarantees the inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts in the field. A controlled proximity criterion was applied, where the gap between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, thereby aligning their general scholarly output with their discipline-specific impact.
Additional Verification and Data Integrity Practices
At Research.com, we recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully encapsulate the breadth and quality of scholarly contributions. Consequently, all scientist profiles included in this ranking underwent rigorous manual verification and were cross-correlated against a wide range of trustworthy publication sources. Although the number of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s ranking, these metrics serve as valuable secondary signals attesting to a scientist’s impact and leadership within Immunology.
The ranking positions are ultimately established through each researcher’s D-index, determined based on data from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the scientific community.
