Overview
The University of Florida (UF) is a public research university located in Gainesville, Florida. Founded in 1858 by James Henry Roper, it boasts of being the largest and oldest university in the state. With its stellar national rankings, UF is regarded as a top-rated educational institution. It envisions a community that pursues excellence in education and research and where students are empowered to lead others and forge a better future.
At the University of Florida, students can choose from 100 undergraduate and 200 graduate programs. Popular majors include engineering, marketing, business management, social sciences, biological and biomedical sciences, and health professions and related programs. These programs are distributed across 16 colleges that confer degrees in various disciplines, from agricultural and life sciences to liberal arts and nursing. UF also has over 200 online programs and certificates, including a top-ranked online MBA program.
When James Roper first opened the school, it was known as the Gainesville Academy. It wasn’t until 1950 that it officially became the University of Florida in 1905. In the ‘50s, UF opened its Colleges of Nursing and Medicine as well as a teaching hospital. With this, UF became the only university in the United States with six health-related colleges located on one campus.
UF’s history has also been intertwined with sports over the years. The school pioneered the offering of athletic programs in the ‘20s, invented the sports drink Gatorade in 1965, and fielded the first UF athlete to compete in the Olympics in 1968.
The University of Florida is home to many accomplished individuals in their field. Notable alumni include U.S. Senator Maro Rubio, sportscaster and TV host Erin Andrews, and baseball and football player Tim Tebow.
UF has earned recognition for being one of the best value colleges in America. It has also received top-tier placement in U.S.-based university rankings and is included in the top 200 schools based on global rankings.
The university is also preparing for the future by embarking on construction projects worth over two billion dollars in the next 10 years. A huge chunk of the budget will go to the construction of new academic buildings. These plans include the construction of the UF Honors College Complex, an athletic dorm, and a general student dorm. Funding will also be allocated towards the renovation of its existing dorms. UF is investing in these infrastructure projects to achieve its goal of becoming a top-five public university in the U.S.

D-index
D-index (Discipline H-index) only includes papers and citation values for an examined discipline in
contrast to General H-index which accounts for publications across all disciplines.
Our research was coordinated by Imed Bouchrika, PhD, a computer scientist with a well-established record
of collaboration on a number of international research projects with different partners from the academic
community. His role was to make sure all data remained unbiased, accurate, and up-to-date.
We list only scientists having Microsoft Academic Graph D-Index >= 40 within the area of
Biology and Biochemistry. If you or other scholars are not listed, we appreciate if you can
