The 2nd edition of Research.com ranking of the best scholars in the
field of Neuroscience was created using data
consolidated from various data sources including OpenAlex and
CrossRef. The bibliometric data for devising the citation-based metrics were
gathered on 21-12-2022. Position in the ranking is based on a
researcher’s D-index (Discipline H-index), which
takes into account only publications and citation
metrics for an examined discipline.

The focus of our Neuroscience research
Our best scientists ranking is a credible
list of leading researchers from the field of
Neuroscience, created using a thorough
study of 166,880 scientists determined
from multiple bibliometric data sources. For the discipline of
Neuroscience, as many as 27400 scientists were
examined.
What is D-index inclusion threshold for Neuroscience
The D-index threshold for approving a scientist to be
examined is established at 30 if
the majority of of their publications are in the field of Neuroscience. The
acceptance criteria for scientists to be
considered into the ranking of top scientists are based on the D-index, ratio
of the publications made within the selected area
as well as the awards and achievements of the scientists. The
D-index threshold for considering best scientists is
set as an increment of 10 depending on the total number of scientists
estimated for each area od study whilst
ensuring that the top 1% of leading scientists are
considered into the list. We estimate a proximity of
30% or less between a scholar’s general H-index and their D-index.
Additional verification methods
As our primary mission is to guarantee that only
actual scholars are included in
our ranking we realize that metrics are never
meant to be a full tool to evaluate the
output of researchers. This is why
we manually verify each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
wide range of credible sources. Although it’s not a
element contributing to a scientist’s position in
Research.com ranking, the amount of documents published in
prominent journals and conference proceedings should constitute a
credible secondary signal of their contribution to research in a
selected area of science. Position in the ranking is
based on each researcher’s D-index
according to metrics gathered from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most credible and well-established bibliometric
databases of this type open to the research community. A
detailed overview of our research process
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our mission
Our mission is to inspire researchers,
companies and administrative bodies
around the world to explore where leading experts are heading
and to offer a way for the entire research community to
discover who the leading experts in specific
fields of research, in various countries, or even within research
institutions are.
