The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Materials Science Scientists in Taiwan Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data collected from leading public databases, notably OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple other reputable data sources. The citation-based metrics utilized to devise the ranking were gathered on January 12, 2026, ensuring a recent and robust dataset. A scientist’s position in this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that specifically considers only the publications and citations relevant to the examined discipline—in this case, Materials Science. This approach provides a more accurate reflection of a researcher’s impact within their specialized field.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles drawn from a variety of bibliometric databases across all scientific disciplines. Within Materials Science specifically, 164 scientists were evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 40, ensuring that only researchers with a significant disciplinary impact were considered. In addition, a majority of the scientist’s tier publications must fall within the scope of Materials Science. Beyond bibliometric thresholds, scientists’ awards and professional achievements in Materials Science were also factored into the evaluation.
The D-index threshold for top researcher consideration is adapted in increments of 10 relative to the total number of scholars estimated in each discipline. This dynamic thresholding guarantees that the ranking incorporates the top 1% of leading scholars in Materials Science. Furthermore, to ensure alignment between a researcher’s general impact and their specialized impact, only those with a proximity of 30% or less between their overall H-index and D-index were eligible for ranking.

The central position in the ranking, however, is governed by each researcher’s D-index as derived from information aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
