The citation-based metrics utilized to generate the ranking were compiled on January 12, 2026, ensuring the latest and most comprehensive data available were considered. A key metric employed in determining each scientist’s position in the ranking is the D-index (Discipline H-index), which isolates papers and citation metrics strictly within the examined discipline of Political Science. This discipline-specific approach allows for a nuanced and accurate reflection of a researcher’s scholarly impact within their particular field.
Scope of Research and Criteria for Inclusion
The ranking draws from an extensive pool of 279,971 scientist profiles evaluated across all disciplines, with a focused subset of 2,034 scientists specifically identified within the domain of Political Science. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index must be at least 20, and a majority of their tier publications must be within the scope of Political Science. Additionally, recognition of a scientist’s awards and notable achievements in this field contributes to their consideration. The D-index threshold for each discipline is adaptive, increasing in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars, while rigorously ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts are represented. Furthermore, to maintain disciplinary relevance, the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must be within 30% or less, thereby affirming that the scholar’s research focus aligns closely with Political Science.

Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team undertook meticulous manual verification for all scientist profiles considered in the ranking. Profiles were cross-checked against a wide array of trustworthy publications to corroborate accuracy and authorship integrity. While the number of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings are not direct factors influencing a researcher’s position in the ranking, they remain valuable secondary indicators of a scientist’s contribution and stature within their scientific community.
