The bibliometric data underpinning the citation-based metrics utilized to devise the ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist's position within the ranking is determined solely through their D-index (Discipline H-index). This metric considers only the publication and citation records associated with the specific discipline under examination—Plant Science and Agronomy—thereby providing a focused and discipline-specific measure of scholarly impact.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles retrieved from a diverse array of bibliometric sources, spanning all scientific disciplines globally. Specifically, 46 scientists from the field of Plant Science and Agronomy based in Argentina were evaluated for inclusion.
To qualify for this ranking, a scientist must have attained a D-index of at least 30, indicative of significant scholarly impact within the discipline. Additionally, a majority of a scientist’s tier publications must be concentrated in Plant Science and Agronomy to ensure domain-relevance.
Alongside bibliometric criteria, individual awards and professional achievements within Plant Science and Agronomy were also considered as supplementary evidence of academic leadership and excellence. The D-index threshold is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10, proportional to the estimated total number of scholars within the discipline, while rigorously ensuring that the top 1% of leading scholars are incorporated.
Moreover, to maintain consistency between general impact and disciplinary specialization, only researchers whose general H-index and discipline-specific D-index differ by no more than 30% were considered.
Verification Practices and Data Integrity
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the multifaceted contributions of scholars, extensive manual verification processes were implemented. Each scientist’s profile was carefully cross-referenced with publications verified in a variety of trustworthy academic sources. This layered approach reinforces the ranking’s accuracy and credibility.
While not directly influencing a scientist’s ranking position, the number of publications in prominent journals and leading conference proceedings was also documented as an important secondary indicator of research activity and influence within the discipline.
The final positioning in the Research.com ranking was strictly determined by the D-index, calculated using verified bibliometric information sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef. These databases represent the most prominent and internationally recognized repositories of scholarly metadata, further validating the methodological rigor employed.
