Each scientist's ranking position is determined based on their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that exclusively considers publications and citation impact within the specific discipline under examination. This approach ensures a focused and accurate representation of a researcher's influence in the field of Business and Management.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
Our analysis encompassed 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a diverse array of bibliometric databases spanning all academic disciplines. Within this comprehensive dataset, 488 scientists were identified whose primary research focus aligns with Business and Management.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist's D-index was required to be at least 30, ensuring a minimum threshold of scholarly impact within Business and Management. Additionally, a majority of a qualifying scientist’s tier publications had to be situated firmly within this discipline. Consideration was also given to scientists’ noteworthy awards and achievements in the field, further validating their standing as leading contributors.
The D-index threshold for recognizing top researchers is dynamically set in increments of 10, tailored to the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This methodology guarantees incorporation of the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, we maintain a proximity criterion whereby a scientist’s overall H-index may not exceed their D-index by more than 30%, thereby emphasizing disciplinary-specific research impact.
Verification Practices and Data Integrity
We acknowledge that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of a scholar’s research output or impact. To uphold the highest standards of accuracy and credibility, every scientist profile included in the ranking was manually verified. This verification involved cross-correlation of publication records against a broad spectrum of reliable and trustworthy sources.
While the positioning in the ranking is established solely by the D-index information extracted from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the quantity of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings is considered a valuable supplementary indicator of a scientist’s contributions to their discipline.
We encourage readers to consult our methodology page for a detailed exposition on the comprehensive processes and criteria underpinning the ranking.
