Aston University is a public research university located in Birmingham, England. Aside from being a leading university in the United Kingdom, the university is known for its business school, which is one of the oldest and largest business schools in the country.

The university offers over 250 courses at a variety of levels, including Foundation programs, undergraduate degrees, postgraduate courses, research degrees, and PhD programs. Aside from these traditional programs, students at the university can also pursue degree apprenticeships, work-based degrees, professional short courses, and fully online degrees. The university has ranked globally for several subjects, including business and economics, psychology, and social sciences. The university has also achieved high rankings in the subjects of ophthalmics, aural and oral sciences, marketing, social policy, and building.

Aston University also offers plenty of opportunities to international students. Foreign students can pursue various pathway programs at the university, including Foundation, International Year One, and Pre-Masters programs. The university also offers assistance to international students seeking professional work placements.

Aston University traces its origins to the Birmingham and Midland Institute's School of Metallurgy, which was established in 1875. In 1895, the Birmingham Technical School separated from the institute and eventually expanded, teaching botany and training teachers. The school also later changed its name to Birmingham Central Technical College. By 1966, a Royal Charter allowed the school to officially become the University of Aston in Birmingham. The university assumed its current name in 1997.

The university has had a long history of being an educational pioneer in the U.K. In 1947, Aston University established one of the first business schools in the country: Aston Business School. This business school was the first institution of its kind in the U.K. to receive the EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation. ABS is also one of the few business schools in the world to have the triple accreditation from EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA. Moreover, in 2017, Aston University became the first university in the U.K. to have degree apprenticeship program graduates.

Aston University is also known as a leading university for research. Though all schools at the university are involved in research projects and activities, the university's highest-profile research areas include advanced services, bioenergy, entrepreneurship, forensic linguistics, neuroscience, optometry, and photonics. The university is committed to developing a number of university-level research institutes, such as the Aston Institute for Photonic Technologies and the Aston Institute of Health and Neurodevelopment.
