Introduction to the 4th Edition of the Research.com Best Medicine Universities in Saudi Arabia Ranking
The 4th edition of the Research.com Best Medicine Universities in Saudi Arabia Ranking has been meticulously developed using comprehensive bibliometric data aggregated from leading sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable data sources. The bibliometric data, instrumental in devising citation-based metrics for this ranking, were collected on November 27, 2024. Institutional positions in the ranking are determined by the sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated scholars whose primary research area is in Medicine. The D-index captures solely the publications and citation impact within the examined discipline, assuring a highly focused and relevant measurement of academic excellence in Medicine.
Scope of Research and Criteria
This edition evaluated an extensive field of 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from diverse bibliometric databases. From this, 72,221 scholars with a focus on Medicine were subjected to detailed analysis. To qualify, each scientist was required to possess a D-index threshold of at least 70, with the majority of their significant publications situated within the discipline of Medicine. In addition to bibliometric indicators, individual achievements and awards in Medicine were considered as supplementary criteria. Importantly, the D-index threshold for top researchers is determined in increments of 10, adjusted in accordance with the scale of each discipline, while ensuring that the top 1% of global experts are consistently represented. Furthermore, a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s H-index and their D-index is maintained to ensure disciplinary focus. The consideration of scientists’ accolades and contributions further enhances the comprehensive nature of this assessment.
Verification Practices and Data Integrity
Recognizing the limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team undertook extensive manual verification for every scientist profile. These profiles were cross-referenced against publications in a variety of highly trustworthy sources to authenticate the data. Although the quantity of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings is not a ranking factor per se, it nonetheless serves as a valuable supplementary indicator of a researcher’s influence in Medicine. Ultimately, each researcher's H-index, as documented by OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the world’s most authoritative bibliometric databases—formed the backbone of ranking decisions.
