To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 40, with the majority of their tier publications concentrated specifically in the field of Chemistry. Additionally, a scientist’s awards and achievements within the discipline were taken into consideration to further validate excellence.
The threshold for the D-index is calibrated in increments of 10, corresponding to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This dynamic scaling ensures that the ranking includes the top 1% of leading researchers in the field. Furthermore, to maintain consistency and relevance to the discipline, candidates must exhibit a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their D-index.
Verification Practices and Ranking Methodology
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the complexities of scholarly output, all scientist profiles included in the ranking were manually verified. This verification process included cross-correlation with publications indexed in a wide range of authoritative and trustworthy sources to authenticate authorship and relevance.
Although the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor influencing a researcher’s position in the Research.com ranking, it remains a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s impact within the discipline.
The final ranking is established based on each researcher’s D-index derived from data gathered from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
