Overview
McMaster University is a public research university located in Ontario, Canada. It prides itself on being a place where innovation, discovery, and growth thrives. To this end, it aims to create a brighter world where collaboration, creativity, and new ideas are welcome and where students and faculty can make an impact on their community and the world.
McMaster offers over 20 undergraduate degree programs in various fields. On the other hand, they also offer over 100 programs for graduate diplomas as well as master’s, doctorate, MD, and Ph.D. degrees. Graduate studies are divided into six faculties: engineering, humanities, science, social sciences, and the DeGroote School of Business. They also have over 300 continuing education courses, professional development workshops, and customized corporate training.
Founded in 1887, the university was built through funds provided by Senator William McMaster for building a Christian school. Initially, McMaster offered only art and theology courses, but in 1890 the school started offering degree programs. After receiving a land grant from Baptist members and other donors, the university was moved from Toronto to Hamilton in 1930. McMaster, later on, became a non-denominational private institution. In 1948, the university stepped up its engineering and nuclear studies offerings to keep up with the demands created by World War II. During this time, a nuclear reactor was built on the grounds, the first of its kind in Canada.
Many Mcmaster students go on to become successful in their fields. Notable McMaster alumni include Stephen Elop, former president and CEO of Nokia; Paul D. House, president and CEO of Tim Hortons; and award-winning actor Eugene Levy, who has appeared in American Pie and Schitt's Creek.
Mcmaster University has earned distinctions both locally and internationally for the quality of its education. It has been cited consistently as Canada’s most research-intensive institution. Globally, it has figured in the upper 100 tier of the Times Higher Education rankings. On a per-subject basis, McMaster stands out for medical-related subjects like nursing, anatomy, and physiology.
Currently, a substantial investment from the provincial government of Ontario is underway to build a chemical library that will be used for antibiotics research. On the other hand, the university plans to expand the McMaster Innovation Park to build a Life Sciences Megahub. Lastly, there are also plans to make the David Braley Athletic Centre and the Ivor Wynne Centre bigger with additional facilities for fitness, grocery shopping, and communal areas.
Our research was coordinated by Imed Bouchrika, PhD, a computer scientist with a well-established record
of collaboration on a number of international research projects with different partners from the academic
community. His role was to make sure all data remained unbiased, accurate, and up-to-date.
