The bibliometric data utilized to devise the citation-based metrics underpinning this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that specifically includes only those publications and citations pertinent to the examined discipline, thereby accurately reflecting their impact and contribution within Plant Science and Agronomy.
Scope of Research and Ranking Eligibility
The ranking was developed following an extensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of bibliometric data sources spanning all academic disciplines. Within this comprehensive dataset, 50 scientists specializing in Plant Science and Agronomy were evaluated in detail.
To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a researcher’s D-index had to be at least 30. Furthermore, a majority of their tier publications were required to be within Plant Science and Agronomy, ensuring relevance to the discipline. Consideration was also given to scientists’ awards and notable achievements in the field.
The D-index threshold is calibrated in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This method guarantees inclusion of the top 1% of leading scholars, maintaining exclusivity and recognition of excellence. Additionally, to maintain consistency in discipline-specific impact, a proximity threshold of 30% or less between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index was applied.
Additional Verification Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output, each scientist profile underwent meticulous manual verification. Profiles were cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad range of authoritative sources to confirm accuracy and validity.
While not directly factored into the ranking position, the number of publications in prominent journals and prestigious conference proceedings provides valuable secondary context regarding a researcher’s contribution to their field.
The ranking positions themselves are established according to the individual researcher’s D-index, derived from authoritative information consolidated from OpenAlex and CrossRef—widely recognized as premier bibliometric databases within the scholarly community.
