Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Animal Science and Veterinary Scientists in Belgium Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data gathered from leading databases such as OpenAlex and CrossRef, in addition to multiple other diverse and reputable data sources. The citation-based metrics used to establish this ranking were meticulously collected as of January 12, 2026. A researcher’s position within the ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index (D-index), a specialized metric that exclusively considers publications and citation counts within the specific discipline of Animal Science and Veterinary. This ensures a focused and accurate reflection of scientific contributions in the relevant field.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
An extensive examination was performed across 279,971 scientist profiles identified via an array of bibliometric data sources covering all academic disciplines, from which 51 scientists specializing in Animal Science and Veterinary were specifically analyzed. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 20, with the majority of their tier publications originating in Animal Science and Veterinary. Awards and notable achievements within the discipline were also integrated as evaluative factors.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically defined as increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in a discipline, simultaneously ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts are incorporated into the ranking. Additionally, candidates must maintain a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, underscoring consistent research excellence both broadly and within the discipline.
Verification Practices and Data Integrity
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team has undertaken rigorous additional verification procedures. Each scientist’s profile was manually reviewed and cross-referenced against a breadth of trustworthy publication sources to ensure accuracy and authenticity. Although not directly influencing ranking positions, the quantity of papers published in high-impact journals and reputable conference proceedings was also considered to provide secondary insight into a researcher’s contribution and standing within Animal Science and Veterinary.
The ranking position is ultimately established through the D-index computed from data aggregated primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and widely accepted bibliometric repositories widely utilized by the global research community.
