Data Sources and Ranking Methodology
The 4th edition of the Research.com Best Animal Science and Veterinary Universities in Thailand Ranking is founded on a rigorous bibliometric analysis utilizing primarily the OpenAlex and CrossRef databases, supplemented by multiple other reliable data sources. A crucial aspect of this ranking is the citation-based metrics, with all bibliometric data collected as of November 27, 2024.
Institutional ranking positions are determined by the aggregate D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholars officially affiliated with a given university whose principal publication domain is Animal Science and Veterinary. The D-index is discipline-specific, capturing exclusively the publications and citation data within the analyzed field.
Scope of Research Considered
To ensure comprehensive coverage of the discipline, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of trusted bibliometric data sources were systematically examined. Out of these, 43,427 researchers specializing in Animal Science and Veterinary were specifically analyzed for this ranking.
Eligibility criteria for individual scholars included a minimum D-index threshold of 20, with the preponderance of their publications centered in Animal Science and Veterinary. The assessment also incorporated consideration of scientists’ recognitions and achievements within the field. Recognizing the size and diversity of each discipline, the threshold for top researchers is set as increments of 10, ensuring that at least the top 1% of leading scholars for each domain are included. Furthermore, to maintain discipline relevance, the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index is capped at 30%. Notably, scientists’ awards and notable career accomplishments further contributed to their evaluation.
Verification Practices
Understanding that quantitative metrics alone can't capture the full scope of scholarly impact, all scientist profiles that contributed to the ranking underwent manual verification and were cross-checked against publications in a broad array of reputable sources. While the number of publications in prominent journals and leading conference proceedings is not a criterion for the ranking itself, it is acknowledged as an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s research impact.
Ranking positions are established using each researcher’s H-index derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the two most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric sources available to the global academic community.
