The citation-based metrics used to determine researchers’ rankings were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is derived strictly from their Discipline H-index, or D-index, a metric that reflects their scholarly impact within the specified discipline by including only papers and citations pertinent to Computer Science.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a broad range of bibliometric data sources encompassing all scientific disciplines. Specifically, 284 scientists specializing in Computer Science were evaluated for this edition. To qualify for inclusion, a researcher’s D-index had to be at least 30, ensuring a demonstrated and substantive scholarly contribution. Additionally, a majority of an individual’s tier publications were required to be within the Computer Science domain. Consideration was also given to significant awards and academic achievements within the field.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline, carefully calibrated to incorporate the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, to confirm disciplinary focus, only those scientists whose general H-index and D-index differ by 30% or less were considered, ensuring consistency between their overall impact and their specialized contribution in Computer Science.
Verification Practices and Methodological Rigor
Understanding the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data, the Research.com team applies rigorous manual verification and cross-correlation procedures for every scientist profile included in the ranking. Profiles were thoroughly checked against publications indexed in a wide array of trustworthy and authoritative sources to validate and refine the dataset. While not directly influencing the ranking positions, the volume of papers published in prominent journals and competitive conference proceedings was treated as an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution within the specialization.
The ranking positions themselves are determined exclusively based on each researcher’s D-index, as calculated from datasets obtained from OpenAlex, CrossRef, and associated leading bibliometric repositories available to the scientific community.
