This ranking of best female scientists in the world comprises of leading female scientists from all key areas of science. It was based on a detailed analysis of 166,880 profiles.
The H-index threshold for accepting a scientist to be taken into consideration for a world ranking was chosen independently for every scientific discipline, but was in most cases equal to 30 or 40. The acceptance criteria for scientists to be chosen into the world ranking of top female researchers are based on the H-index, rate of the contributions made within an examined area of research plus also on the awards and recognitions of the scholars. Only top 1000 scientists with the highest H-index are displayed in the ranking.
As our central goal is to make sure that only confirmed researchers are included in the ranking, we believe that numbers are never meant to be an absolute system to quantify the work of scholars. Because of this, we manually check each profile and cross-check it against publications in a wide spectrum of trustworthy sources. Even though it’s not a value defining a researcher’s position in the ranking, the quantity of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings should constitute a reliable secondary indication of their contribution to research in a specific discipline. Position in our ranking is based on each researcher’s H-index applying data gathered from a wide range of bibliometric sources, which is one the most prominent and renowned bibliometric databases of this type available to the scientific community. We are painfully aware that scientific research is continously a largely male line of work, and we believe that female scientists deserve an equal chance to be represented and praised for their accomplishments.
