Each institution’s position in the ranking is determined by aggregating the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated scholars whose primary field of publication is Immunology. The D-index is a rigorous metric that counts exclusively publications and citation data relevant to Immunology, ensuring discipline-specific evaluation.
Scope of Research Considered in the Ranking
The ranking rigorously examined 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a wide variety of bibliometric data sources. Of these, 14,292 scientists specializing in Immunology were analyzed in depth. A D-index threshold of 40 was applied for eligibility, ensuring that only established experts were considered and that the majority of each candidate’s publications fell within the sphere of Immunology.
The evaluation process also included consideration of scientists' achievements and awards within Immunology, emphasizing qualitative distinctions alongside bibliometric criteria. The D-index threshold for identifying top researchers is adaptive, increasing in increments of 10 according to the estimated number of scholars in each discipline, guaranteeing the inclusion of the top 1% of leading scholars in the list. An additional quality safeguard stipulated that there should be no more than a 30% disparity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index, underscoring the researcher’s core focus in Immunology. Scientist achievements and recognition in their field were also taken into account.
Additional Verification and Quality Assurance Practices
We recognize that raw bibliometric data should never be treated as the sole measure of scholarly contribution. Therefore, all scientist profiles featured in the ranking underwent manual verification and were cross-checked across multiple trustworthy publication sources. While the volume of papers published in leading journals and conferences does not directly contribute to a scientist's position in the Research.com ranking, it remains a valuable secondary indicator of their influence and continued engagement with the forefront of Immunology research.
Institutional positions were determined using each researcher’s D-index, as calculated from bibliometric records obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef. These databases are internationally recognized for their accuracy, timeliness, and coverage.
