Data Sources and Bibliometric Collection
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Medicine Scientists in Luxembourg Ranking is underpinned by a comprehensive bibliometric dataset primarily aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by various additional reputable sources. These databases represent some of the most authoritative and expansive repositories of scholarly publication and citation data available to the research community. The bibliometric data utilized for constructing citation-based metrics in this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the inclusion of the most current and relevant information. Each scientist's position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which exclusively accounts for publications and citation metrics pertaining to the discipline under examination—in this case, Medicine—thereby providing a field-specific measure of scholarly impact.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
Our analysis encompassed 188,153 scientist profiles drawn from a diverse range of bibliometric data sources across all academic disciplines, from which 2,000 scientists specializing specifically in Medicine were identified and evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the Medicine-focused ranking, a scientist’s D-index needed to be at least 70, reflecting a threshold of sustained scholarly influence within the field. Additionally, a majority of each qualifying scientist’s tier publications must reside in the area of Medicine. Recognition through awards and significant achievements pertinent to the medical domain were also considered to strengthen the profiles' representativeness.
The threshold for the D-index is calibrated in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total population of scholars in each discipline. This calibration guarantees the inclusion of the top 1% of leading researchers within Medicine. Furthermore, to ensure consistency, the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index should not exceed 30%, affirming that the discipline focus is well aligned with their overall scholarly impact.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the multifaceted scholarly output of researchers, the team behind this ranking undertook meticulous manual verification of all scientist profiles. Each profile was cross-correlated against a broad spectrum of trustworthy publication sources, including high-impact journals and key conference proceedings, to validate the authenticity and relevance of their academic contributions. Although the volume of publications in prominent forums does not directly influence the ranking position, it serves as an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s research stature within the discipline.
The final ranking position is determined solely by each researcher’s D-index as calculated from data sourced through OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most comprehensive and widely recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
