The citation-based metrics used to formulate the ranking were collected as of January 12, 2026. A researcher’s position in the ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index (D-index), a metric that reflects a scientist’s scholarly impact specifically within the examined discipline by including only papers and citation counts relevant to Chemistry.
Scope of Research Considered
The ranking evaluates a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across diverse bibliometric repositories covering all scientific disciplines, from which 17,934 researchers specializing in Chemistry were examined in detail. To qualify for inclusion in the Chemistry ranking, a scientist’s D-index must be at least 40, ensuring a threshold of demonstrated scholarly impact. Additionally, a majority of the scientist’s top-tier publications must be within the field of Chemistry, and notable awards and achievements related to the discipline were also considered. The D-index threshold is adjusted by increments of 10, according to the total estimated population of researchers in the discipline, guaranteeing that the top 1% of leading scholars are represented in the list. Furthermore, to maintain relevance within the discipline, there is a constraint that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, ensuring strong alignment with Chemistry research specifically.
