Data Sources and Bibliometric Basis of the Ranking
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in Korea Ranking is primarily constructed utilizing data from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other bibliometric sources. These databases provide extensive coverage of scholarly publications and citation metrics essential for an accurate, citation-based evaluation. The bibliometric data underpinning the ranking’s citation metrics were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist's position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which uniquely focuses on publications and citation counts strictly within the examined discipline, ensuring discipline-specific relevance and precision.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking comprehensively examined 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from diverse bibliometric data sources spanning all academic disciplines. Within this dataset, 22 scientists specializing in Business and Management were identified and evaluated for inclusion. To qualify for the ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 30. Additionally, a majority of their tier publications were required to be within the field of Business and Management to ensure disciplinary alignment. Consideration was also given to the researcher’s awards and achievements specifically recognized in the Business and Management domain.
To maintain rigor and relevance, the D-index threshold is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10, tailored to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This approach guarantees the inclusion of the top 1% leading researchers per discipline. Furthermore, there is an enforced proximity criterion whereby the disparity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, ensuring consistency and focus on discipline-specific impact.
Verification Practices and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the breadth and quality of scholarly output, the Research.com team undertook meticulous manual verification of all scientist profiles. These profiles were cross-correlated and validated against publications from a wide array of trustworthy and reputable sources to uphold accuracy and integrity.
While the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s ranking position, it is regarded as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution within their scientific area. The ranking position itself is established based on each researcher’s D-index, derived from the comprehensive data available via OpenAlex and CrossRef — two of the most respected and widely adopted bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
