Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in Ireland Ranking is grounded in comprehensive bibliometric data aggregated primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. These platforms offer extensive coverage of scientific publications and citation records, enabling robust and transparent metric calculations. The bibliometric data utilized for deriving citation-based metrics were collected on January 12, 2026. The ranking methodology centers on the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined bibliometric indicator that measures a researcher’s productivity and citation impact exclusively within a specified discipline—here, Business and Management—thereby providing a nuanced and discipline-focused evaluation of individual scholarly contributions.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
In constructing this ranking, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles were examined across all academic disciplines, with a dedicated focus on 18 scientists operating within the field of Business and Management. To qualify for inclusion, a researcher was required to have a D-index of at least 30, ensuring a threshold of scholarly excellence. Additionally, a majority of their tier publications needed to fall within the domain of Business and Management, thereby affirming their primary expertise in the area. Consideration was also given to the scientists’ awards and professional achievements within the discipline, adding a qualitative dimension to the selection process.
The threshold for the D-index is set dynamically as increments of 10, calibrated according to the total estimated number of scholars in each discipline to reliably ensure representation of the top 1% of leading researchers. Furthermore, to maintain consistency and disciplinary focus, there is a proximity constraint such that the difference between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index for Business and Management does not exceed 30%.
Verification and Ranking Methodology
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly impact, the Research.com team implemented rigorous additional verification processes. All scientist profiles were manually validated and cross-referenced against publications indexed in a wide array of trustworthy and authoritative sources. While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not a formal criterion in determining a researcher’s ranking position, it is considered a valuable secondary indicator of meaningful contribution to the field.
The final ranking position is based exclusively on the D-index metric as derived from citation information sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and reliable bibliometric databases currently accessible to the research community. This multi-layered approach balances quantitative rigor with expert oversight, reinforcing the credibility and robustness of the resulting ranking.
