A researcher’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that includes only those publications and citation counts directly relevant to the examined discipline. This approach ensures focus on domain-specific scholarly impact rather than generalized academic output.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
In constructing this ranking, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles spanning all disciplines were examined from diverse bibliometric databases. From that broad dataset, 19 scientists specializing specifically in Business and Management within the United Arab Emirates were identified and considered for inclusion.
To qualify for this ranking, a scientist’s D-index needed to be at least 30, reflecting a significant level of scholarly influence within the Business and Management discipline. Additionally, the majority of their tier publications were required to be directly related to Business and Management areas. Beyond bibliometrics, consideration was also given to notable awards and achievements within the field to ensure holistic evaluation.
The D-index threshold is dynamically established in increments of 10, scaled in accordance with the estimated total number of scholars per discipline. This system guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars in each discipline are incorporated into the ranking. Furthermore, a proximity rule stipulates that there should be no more than a 30% difference between a scientist’s overall H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, maintaining consistency in impact measurements across general and specialized scopes.
Verification and Ranking Methodology
The researchers behind this ranking acknowledge that raw bibliometric data alone can never constitute an absolute metric for evaluating the output and influence of scholars. Consequently, all scientist profiles were subjected to meticulous manual verification and cross-correlation against publications indexed in a wide range of trustworthy academic sources.
While not a direct input in the ranking calculation, the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings is recognized as valuable supplementary evidence of a scientist’s contribution within their field.
The primary ranking order is established using each researcher’s D-index, derived from the comprehensive data gathered from OpenAlex and CrossRef — the most prominent and reliable bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
