A scientist’s position in this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined version of the traditional H-index that exclusively considers publications and citation metrics within the examined discipline. This approach ensures that the ranking reflects specialized research impact and productivity specifically in Animal Science and Veterinary fields.
Scope and Qualification Criteria
For this edition, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles were examined across various disciplines based on diverse bibliometric datasets. Specifically, 34 scientists working in the domain of Animal Science and Veterinary in Norway were identified and analyzed.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to meet or exceed the threshold of 20. Additionally, the majority of their tier publications had to be within the Animal Science and Veterinary area, ensuring disciplinary focus. Besides bibliometric thresholds, scientists' awards and achievements in this field were also taken into consideration.
The D-index threshold for each discipline is dynamically set in increments of 10, based on the estimated total number of scholars active in the field. This methodology guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars within each discipline are represented in the list. Furthermore, a proximity criterion is applied whereby the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index is maintained at 30% or less, reinforcing consistency in their specialized research impact.
Additional Verification Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the qualitative dimensions of scholarly contribution, the Research.com team applies meticulous manual verification to all scientist profiles included in the ranking. Profiles were cross-correlated against publications in an extensive array of trustworthy academic sources to verify authenticity and accuracy.
While the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor influencing the final ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to the discipline. Ultimately, the ranking position is firmly established based on the D-index derived from data aggregated through OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most widely respected and comprehensive bibliometric databases accessible to the scientific community.
