Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Psychology Scientists in Ireland Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data extracted from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by several additional reputable data sources. The citation-based metrics underpinning this ranking were collected as of January 12, 2026. Each scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index (D-index), a refined metric that accounts exclusively for publications and citations within the examined discipline of Psychology. This discipline-specific focus enables an accurate reflection of a researcher’s impact and influence in their specialized field.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
In compiling this ranking, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles spanning all disciplines were examined across diverse bibliometric databases, from which 37 scientists specializing in Psychology in Ireland were identified. To qualify for inclusion, a scientist’s D-index required a minimum threshold of 30, with a majority of their tier publications being situated within the domain of Psychology. Additionally, notable awards and achievements in the field contributed as supplementary factors in the evaluation process.
The D-index threshold is carefully calibrated in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, guaranteeing that the top 1% of leading experts are encompassed in the ranking. Furthermore, a proximity criterion is enforced whereby the difference between a researcher’s overall H-index and their discipline-specific D-index does not exceed 30%, thereby ensuring consistency and relevance in the selection.
Verification and Quality Assurance
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot definitively capture a scholar’s research output and impact, the team behind this ranking undertook meticulous manual verification of all profiles. These profiles were cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad range of trustworthy and authoritative sources, lending robustness and credibility to the evaluation process.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking order, it serves as an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s scholarly contributions within Psychology. It is important to reiterate that the ranking position is anchored in each researcher’s D-index, derived from comprehensive data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the most prominent and extensively used bibliometric platforms accessible to the research community.
