A scientist’s standing in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a robust metric that takes into account only those papers and citation metrics relevant to the examined discipline. This ensures the ranking reflects a researcher’s impact specifically within Medicine rather than across unrelated scientific fields.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
To construct this edition of the ranking, we evaluated 279,971 scientist profiles identified from various bibliometric sources, spanning all academic disciplines. Within the domain of Medicine in Slovakia, 1 scientist was evaluated based on their scientific output and impact.
To qualify for inclusion, a scientist needed to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 70, with the majority of their high-impact publications originating in the field of Medicine. Additional consideration was given to scientists’ awards and achievements within Medicine, reflecting their authoritative standing and peer recognition.
The D-index threshold for each discipline is set as an increment of 10, relative to the volume of active scholars in each field, while ensuring that the top 1% of researchers are included. Furthermore, a proximity of 30% or less between each scientist’s general H-index and D-index was maintained, to confirm strong field-specific activity.
Verification Practices and Data Integrity
Understanding that raw bibliometric data cannot solely serve as an absolute measure of academic merit, the Research.com team undertook comprehensive manual verification of scientist profiles. Each profile was cross-referenced against publication records from a wide variety of trusted sources to maximize accuracy and minimize the risk of misattribution or data artefacts.
Although not a direct criterion for ranking, the number of papers a scientist has published in prominent journals and well-regarded conference proceedings is recognized as a meaningful secondary indicator of scholarly impact. It is recommended that these facets be considered alongside the ranking for a fuller perspective on a scientist’s contributions.
The ranking order itself is established strictly on the basis of the D-index, calculated using the most up-to-date data drawn from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which remain the leading bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
