A scientist's position within this ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index, known as the D-index. The D-index specifically measures the impact of a researcher’s output within the examined discipline—Business and Management in this case—by considering only publications and citation counts relevant to the field. This approach ensures that the ranking fairly reflects expertise and influence within the particular scientific domain.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking process began by examining 279,971 scientist profiles taken from an extensive variety of bibliometric data sources across all scientific disciplines. Within this broad dataset, 19 scientists specializing in Business and Management were identified and analyzed in detail.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 30 and a majority of their tier publications had to be concentrated in the field of Business and Management. Additionally, recognition of awards and notable achievements within Business and Management were factored into the evaluation to further highlight leadership and influence in the discipline.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically set in increments of 10, relative to the total estimated number of scholars within each discipline. This method guarantees that the ranking includes the top 1% of leading researchers while maintaining appropriate disciplinary benchmarks. Furthermore, to ensure relevance and disciplinary consistency, only candidates whose general H-index and D-index differ by 30% or less were considered eligible for ranking. This criterion ensures a close alignment between overall scientific impact and domain-specific performance.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scientific output and quality, the Research.com team implemented meticulous manual verification processes for all scientist profiles considered in the ranking.
Each profile was cross-correlated against publications listed in a wide array of trustworthy and authoritative databases to confirm accuracy and reliability. While the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not factored directly into the D-index-based ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary signal indicating a researcher’s contribution and standing within their scientific community.
The ranking positions are ultimately established based on the validated D-index metrics derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef—the most prominent and widely trusted bibliometric databases available to the research community.
