Data Sources and Ranking Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Biology and Biochemistry Scientists in Czechia Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data repositories. The citation-based metrics used to devise this ranking were carefully compiled on January 12, 2026. Central to the ranking methodology is the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that accounts exclusively for a researcher’s publications and citations within the specific discipline of Biology and Biochemistry, thereby ensuring a focused and discipline-sensitive evaluation of scientific impact.
Scope and Selection Criteria
The ranking considered a total of 188,046 scientist profiles identified across a broad spectrum of bibliometric data sources encompassing all scientific disciplines. From this extensive dataset, 31 scientists specializing in Biology and Biochemistry were specifically examined. To qualify for inclusion, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 40, with the majority of their tier publications firmly situated within the disciplinary boundaries of Biology and Biochemistry.
In addition to bibliometric thresholds, factors such as awards and documented achievements relevant to Biology and Biochemistry were incorporated into the qualification assessment. The D-index threshold for top scholar consideration is calibrated in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline, while rigorously ensuring representation of the top 1% of leading experts in the field. Furthermore, a proximity requirement mandates that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index does not exceed 30%, reinforcing the discipline-focused integrity of the ranking.
Additional Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as a definitive measure of scientific output, the researchers behind this ranking undertook meticulous manual verification and cross-correlation of all scientist profiles against publications indexed in a diverse array of trusted scholarly sources. Although the number of publications in leading journals and conference proceedings is not used directly in determining a researcher’s position in the Research.com ranking, it remains a meaningful secondary indicator of a scientist’s contributions to their specialized field.
The ranking positions are ultimately determined by each researcher’s D-index, derived from the aggregated and validated information sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and respected bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
