All bibliometric data used to calculate the key indicators were collected on January 12, 2026. The position of each scientist within the ranking is determined based on their D-index (Discipline H-index), an index that exclusively considers papers and citations relevant to the examined discipline of Animal Science and Veterinary, thereby ensuring a focused and discipline-specific evaluation of their scholarly impact.
Scope and Criteria of Research Considered
An extensive examination was conducted encompassing 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of bibliometric data sources across all disciplines. Within this broad dataset, 21 prominent scientists specifically engaged in Animal Science and Veterinary were identified and assessed.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, researchers needed to achieve a minimum D-index threshold of 20, with the majority of their tier publications firmly rooted in Animal Science and Veterinary research. Additionally, notable awards and achievements within this field were factored into the evaluation process.
The D-index threshold is calibrated in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, while ensuring representation of the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must exhibit a maximum proximity difference of 30% to be considered, emphasizing discipline-specific excellence without divergence from overall research impact.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone do not provide a definitive measure of scholarly output and influence, the Research.com team conducted a rigorous manual verification of all scientist profiles. This process involved cross-referencing publication records with a broad spectrum of reputable sources to accurately validate each researcher’s contributions.
While the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher's ranking position, it remains a valuable secondary indicator of scientific contribution and prominence within the field.
The ranking positions are established chiefly based on each scientist’s D-index as calculated from data provided by OpenAlex and CrossRef — two of the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
