Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Plant Science and Agronomy Scientists in Bulgaria Ranking has been developed using comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other authoritative data repositories. The citation-based metrics integral to this ranking were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist's position within the ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index, or D-index, which specifically accounts for papers and citation impact within the defined discipline of Plant Science and Agronomy. This focused metric ensures that the ranking reflects expertise and influence strictly within the relevant research domain.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
The ranking was derived from an extensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles spanning a broad array of disciplines gleaned from diverse bibliometric data sources. Among these, 3,927 scientists specialized in Plant Science and Agronomy were identified and evaluated for inclusion in the ranking. To qualify, a scientist must have possessed a D-index of at least 30, with a majority of their tier publications concentrated in the field of Plant Science and Agronomy. Additionally, recognized awards and professional achievements within this domain were factored into the evaluation process.
The D-index threshold is dynamically set in increments of 10, reflecting the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, thereby ensuring that the top 1% of leading researchers are incorporated into the list. Furthermore, eligibility requires that the proximity between a scientist's general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index does not exceed 30%, reinforcing the focus on domain-specific excellence.
Verification and Validation Practices
Understanding the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team undertook a rigorous manual verification process. Each scientist profile was carefully cross-referenced and validated against publications from a broad spectrum of trustworthy sources to ensure accuracy and fairness. While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s ranking position, it is recognized as a valuable secondary indicator of contribution and impact within the discipline.
The final positioning in the ranking is established based on the D-index calculated from data gathered through OpenAlex and CrossRef—among the most prominent and respected bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
