Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Medicine Scientists in Sweden Ranking is grounded in comprehensive bibliometric data primarily derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef, along with multiple other authoritative data sources. The citation-based metrics utilized to devise this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the most up-to-date and accurate representation of scientific output. A researcher’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that exclusively considers papers and citations within the scientist’s examined discipline, thereby providing a precise evaluation of their impact in Medicine.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
Our evaluation encompassed 188,153 scientist profiles drawn from a variety of bibliometric databases and covering all academic disciplines. Specifically, 389 scientists specializing in Medicine were systematically assessed for inclusion in the ranking. To qualify, a scientist’s D-index had to meet or exceed 70, and a majority of their tier publications were required to be within the field of Medicine. Additionally, factors such as awards and distinguished achievements in Medicine were taken into consideration.
The D-index thresholds for top researchers are carefully established as increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This methodology ensures that the ranking consistently incorporates the top 1% of leading experts. To further reinforce discipline-specific relevance, a proximity criterion was applied whereby the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their Discipline H-index is maintained at 30% or less.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot provide an absolute measure of scholarly impact, the Research.com team undertook meticulous manual verification of all scientist profiles. This process included cross-correlation of publication records against a wide range of trustworthy and reputable sources to confirm accuracy and authenticity. Although not a direct component of the ranking calculation, the volume of papers published in high-profile journals and conference proceedings was also reviewed, serving as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution within Medicine.
The D-index positions presented in this ranking are established based on information from OpenAlex and CrossRef, widely regarded as the most prominent and reliable bibliometric databases available to the scientific community.
